From Coal Mine to Clean Tech Hub with San Juan County PESCO Lease

San Juan County, NM, has awarded a lease to PESCO for 45 acres at the former BHP La Plata Coal Mine site for a facility to build water processing equipment that will treat frack water with ozone. The venture is slated to bring in $5 million in revenue monthly for PESCO and 80 jobs to the region.
Collaboration leads to major impact
After purchasing the site in 2007, San Juan County has overseen significant HVAC, lighting, broadband internet and commercial natural gas service totaling $5.1 million. This expansion shows what’s possible when local governments secure applicable grants and build infrastructure with innovation in mind.
