Training and continuous improvement for the local workforce are priorities in San Juan County. For example, the county is New Mexico’s first ACT Certified Work Ready Community, which is a national credential that identifies an individual's skills. To date, over 3,100 people have been assessed and received their credentials, with nearly 80 area employers participating in the program. Additionally, 4CED actively works with new and existing employers to tap into the many workforce-related incentives offered by the state. Over the past year alone, four local employers have been approved to receive $1.6 million in education and training reimbursements.
Another example is San Juan College, a nationally recognized and innovative community college offering hundreds of two-year degrees and certificate programs. Through its Center for Workforce Development, the college is known for its responsiveness to the needs and challenges of area employers by addressing workforce demands with short-term, high-impact, customized training.
