It is the only Level III trauma facility between Albuquerque, NM and Grand Junction, CO.

San Juan County is also home to the Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) in Shiprock. Serving over 80,000 Native Americans, NNMC is one the largest hospitals operated by the Indian Health Service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NNMC has 860 full-time employees including 75 physicians and 24 mid-level providers and serves.
