LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

playgroundBloomfield Early Childhood Center – Pre-K & Kindergarten

For over 30 years, the Bloomfield Early Childhood Center’s mission has been to create a safe, nurturing learning environment for Bloomfield’s youngest students.  Our highly trained and dedicated staff believe that children learn best when they are allowed to play, explore, and interact with the world around them.

The Bloomfield Early Childhood Center provides expertly designed early childhood education programs and curriculum to 300+ students, preschool through kindergarten, in a public school setting.

We are a Title I school and all of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch through the National Community Eligibility Program.

The Bloomfield Early Childhood Center has Three Excellent Programs:

Our three year old special preschool program is a specialized program designed to address the social/emotional, cognitive, fine/gross motor skills, and physical needs of special education students in our community.  This half day program provides individualized instruction and intervention to students with special needs.  Students must be 3 years old and have an identified disability to participate in this program. We conduct several Child Find events throughout the school year to screen and identify students with special needs. If you’d like more information about Child Find, please contact our school office at 505-634-3883 and ask to speak to our Child Find Coordinator.

Our NMPreK program is a grant funded preschool program for students 4-5 years of age.  Children in the program do not have to be on an IEP to participate, but they have to have reached their 4th birthday by September 1st. The purpose of the NMPreK program is to ensure every child in New Mexico has the opportunity to attend a high quality early childhood education program before kindergarten. Our center-based program focuses on building pre-academic, social/emotional, and kindergarten readiness skills. Whether it is counting to 10 or learning to take turns, preschool is about exploring and learning through discovery.

Our kindergarten program is the cornerstone of our Bloomfield students' education. We set high academic standards but continue to promote learning through play and discovery.  Our goal is to foster a lifelong love of learning.  In fact, at the end of the year, we celebrate our success by participating in a “Promise to Graduate” ceremony.  All of our students promise to graduate, sign a banner which follows them to each of our district campus locations, and are awarded a medal by one of our current Bloomfield graduates.  Come to the Bloomfield Early Childhood Center--the place where your child’s bright future begins and Bobcats are born!

Charlie Y. Brown Alternative High School – Grades 9-12

The primary objective at Charlie Y. Brown Alternative High School is to provide opportunities for academic success and student achievement in a setting that removes some of the distractions observed in larger school settings. Our goal is to work collaboratively with our students, parents, teachers, staff, and community to set up a foundation for learning and success. At CYB, student success depends on our parents and community members as much as our teachers.  Motivating students to succeed in the classroom takes on-going and persistent desire to achieve small incremental goals that will eventually lead to graduation.

To assist in expectations and student motivation, CYB utilizes PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) to set school wide expectation and to celebrate incremental successes.  Student success criteria is set at the beginning of the year and celebrated 3 times quarterly.  Attendance, tardies, grades, credit recovery, and discipline standards must be met for designated celebrations.  Our students are eager to meet the expectation set forth and average at least 20 students per celebration.

CYB teachers and staff are proud of the accomplishments of our students who have proven to succeed in spite of the obstacles and hurdles in their paths. We pride ourselves in building relationships with each individual student to ensure we meet their needs. We will work with our students and parents to remove any hindrance that is preventing or slowing down the educational progress for student success. Our staff is looking forward to continuing the momentum that has been created at CYB and is committed to assisting our students create a brighter future.
